Porcelain inlays and onlays are conservative dental treatments which are minimally invasive - meaning only the decayed area of the tooth is removed. The only difference between these treatments is the area affected.
An inlay is similar to a filling and lies inside the cusp tips of your tooth; where as an onlay is a more extensive reconstruction that covers one or more cusps of your tooth, which is effectively the biting surfaces.
Used as an alternative to traditional Amalgam fillings; porcelain inlays and onlays are actually healthier, more attractive and longer lasting. The strength of this type of restoration comes from using porcelain technologies, which bonds more successfully to your tooth, and is fast becoming a more preferred option to traditional silver fillings that react to heat and cold, thus making them unstable and after time can become loose and fall out.
Inlays and onlays are virtually invisible in your mouth, are bonded into place and can protect your tooth and assist in making it stronger. They may be created to match the exact colour of your existing teeth.

Today many people experience the feeling of anxiety with relation to visiting the dentist, and will often put off making an appointment. I.V. (intravenous) sedation, sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry, may be a more appropriate alternative for patients who are nervous or apprehensive about dental procedures or who require complicated or lengthy treatments.
